So you want to block Brexit?
Well that makes sense. Democracy can be applied selectively to ensure favourable outcomes. You’ll put the in-group’s preferences first, because their decisions are well-informed.
There’s no moral impasse because the out-group are uneducated and selfish. You’re not selfish because the in-group’s wants are called progressive, while the out-group’s are not.
Your opinions are more valuable than the out-group’s. You don’t read the same news as they do, you read the right news. You’re not a low information voter. You believe in facts, data and expert opinion. You know, for example, that 48%, or 16.1 million, is equal to or greater than 52%, or 17.4 million.
That might be because each Remain voter is one person, but each Leave voter has a value slightly lower than one, due to their fecklessness and lack of information.
Maybe you should be paid more than any Leave voting colleagues. After all, your vote carries more weight and you’re more valuable than they are, so why shouldn’t you be remunerated accordingly?
You’re not indoctrinated like the credulous out-group. There’s no pro-EU bias in the education system–teachers all have the same opinions because they’re all educated, and they educated you too.
And you’re not anti-democratic, you’re upholding democracy. You acquiesce to the political class because that’s how it works. Why rock the boat? You’re in the smart group. Smart enough to let your betters call the shots. You know your place.
You’re the tolerant one, you’re liberal. This is clear because the values you want to see compulsorily enforced by the state are tolerant, liberal values. The ends justify the means. And you have plenty of self awareness—there’s a group consensus on that.
You don’t look down on people who have a different opinion, you want to help them. It’s not good to let people with opinions like theirs decide on important matters. They don’t know what’s good for them.
You think working class people are romantic and witty like in those wonderful Ken Loach films. But they shouldn’t be allowed to influence politics because they’re thick racists too. There must be some way to help them. You help by voting Labour or Green.
You’re glad that there are so many unbiased comedians unpacking this whole EU disaster. They really cut through the bigotry and lies, and they all agree with you. And the actors and pop stars too. All the rogues and the rebels, you love their anti-establishment radicalism, and it’s great that they know to toe the line right now.
Post-truth Brexit Britain is shot through and psychotic, it can’t survive. You’re glad you were right about the pound falling, and now we all have to pull together to talk the economy down. It hasn’t worked yet but it will—somebody has to show the out-group how much they’ve screwed things up.
Maybe Scotland will sort things out, or Jeremy Corbyn, or some lawyers.

So here we are in 2019. The Economy is dead. The arse has fell out of the Pound. Nobody has a Job. Nobody is investing in the u.k. Oh hang on. Nope none of that happened. Infact, quite the opposite happened.

Sadly, I missed this when it was first published but the comments made it a happy recent discovery. Since the vote to leave I have listened to the increasingly hysterical screeches in opposition, particularly from the EU whose foot seems perpetually in their collective mouth.
Only one thing then springs to mind; why on earth did we ever get involved with such an immature rabble of deluded buffoons?

Sadly for them, while they claim to be “Europeans” they haven’t noticed that Wilders and Le Pen are odds-on to win elections in the NL and France; that Orban is rattling the bars in the east, and that Merkel is detested and about to be thrown to the lions by the Germans.
Try to adapt: it;s no good concocting yet another idiotic mantra and claiming that we live in a “post truth” world of “alternative facts” – as if all those who disagree with you have all the veracity of someone who claims to regularly be abducted by aliens.

You Gov polls suggest that support for Leave is now 68% due to the ludicrous posturings and tantrums of the 48%. Which means you are now the 32%.

I know that this is supposed to be ironic, but it’s actually just all true isn’t it!?
The uneducated did vote to leave.
The bigots and racists did vote to leave.
The indoctrinated did vote to leave.
The angry mob did vote to leave.
We do have a duty to help those that voted out and try to explain what they’ve done and why it was the wrong thing.
Why the economy is going down the pan.
Why the experts are being proven right.
Why the world is a far uglier place thanks to their hate.
Thankfully it seems like 80 MPs have seen sense and should be able to reverse this catastrophe.
Then we’ll have some apologising and groveling to do to Europe.

They don’t really seem all that bright, regarding the £350 million. The sign said it COULD be paid to the NHS. Could be. From money we are currently giving to the EU.
When we no longer pay the EU – we will have money left over for our own interests.
I had a glimmer of hope that @grimachu was being ironic – and then I remembered, the need to avoid offending anyone, or shaming anyone, negates humour.

Boy howdy do you have it entirely backwards. The economy is in tatters and heading south, there’s no 350m for the NHS, most of the reasons people voted (that had nothing to do with membership of the EU) won’t change. You’re deluded.
Dream on, this is a spot on description of the uninformed that made up 48% of the referendum vote. All the respectable information suggests that the leave vote would be even bigger now we all know the depth of the remain campaign’s propoganda.
And it was close enough that the margin of error reversed that, but that’s no longer the case.

Corbyn and his merry band are all in favour of Brexit now. Because “Some of the wisest people you meet are sweeping our streets”.
Polls predicted Remain would win
Absolutely correct! 48% of voters are not europhiles, plenty (like myself) would call themselves reluctant remainers. Reluctant remainers don’t think much of the EU but in the end were (rightly or wrongly) worried about their jobs and the ambiguity of the alternative. Most now have got their heads around the result and think the result should be respected. If MP’s block A50 being triggered they will not be alienating 52% of voters but a significant number of reluctant remain voters too. Labour need to be very careful (which they are not) with this or risk losing nearly all their marginal seats.

We don’t have to comply, it wasn’t a binary referendum and the damage and narrowness of the vote (and its reversal) more than justify a reassessment.
It’s amazing the contortions people will get into to ‘lalala’ disaster. The cartoon ‘This is fine’ played out in real life.
Margin of error is 3-5%. Polls suggesting it’s reversed are equal to or over that margin. Someone’s not learned how they work, but it’s not me.

Have you factored in the remainers who still think it would be better to remain but that we have to comply with the referendum result.

How has the impact begun to hit? If you say “sterling” then you are wasting your breath. Sterling was overvalued before the vote and it is far closer to its economically favourable level now. What else?
“Polls suggest” then a selective number is quoted with a difference to a majority that is lower than the margin of error. Not learned about polls yet m7?

Well that is quite bleak isn’t it. Remain lost. Leave won. What place is there in our country for the 48% now? Do the 52% want the 48% around still?
Polls suggest Remainers are likely over 53% now that the impact has begun to hit. The whole thing’s a monstrous blunder of disinformation, lies and primitive nationalistic nonsense that’s going to harm the people that voted for it (on issues that has nothing to do with it) worst.
