A Prayer For Service

VICAR

Not more snow!

Just when Spring seemed to be here, more snow! Unbelievable. I had put the snow shovel away for the year, too.

So, here we are, Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, already in the fifth Sunday of Lent. And it is worth reminding You that Lent is all about sacrifice. That sacrifice could also mean service. (Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.)

Look around You. Not far from You right now there are those engaged in voluntary or paid service. These people are often going out on a limb to preserve health of others, our security, perhaps our freedoms. Please think of these people today. And ask Yourself – what service do I do? If called to answer this question at the end of my own days on earth, how will I answer this question?

Here is the weekly prayer, below. Have a wonderful and peaceful week to come. Be careful out there ion the snow and ice. I am told a thaw is due. That is certainly what I am praying for!

God Bless.

God of love,

May we serve you radically,

going beyond what is expected of us

to love and serve those around us.

As we look towards Good Friday,

we think about the sacrifice you made for us.

We ask that you help us

to live sacrificially in response.

May we follow and serve,

lovingly, graciously and wholeheartedly.

Amen.
