A Prayer for Our Children

VICAR

I like this time of year more than many of the children! Although some of the children are looking forward to going back to school this week, there are many who dread a return to the classroom and wish that the summer holidays will never end. So this week, Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, let us focus on them – the children.

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3

As Abraham Lincoln once noted, “the philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next”. So we should all care about our schools and what our children are learning in them. We should also pray for their security as we live in times when there are those who seek to threaten them, both from outside and sometimes from within. There are also pupils suffering from family breakdowns at home and from mental illness who we should be sure get extra care. There are also the disruptors in the classroom – let them find peace.

I wish You and your loved ones a peaceful week ahead and urge you to celebrate this Sunday before the new term starts. God bless.

Heavenly Father, we praise you for Your love and faithfulness in all things. We thank You for your protection and care over our families. Thanks be to You for giving us wisdom and righteousness for raising our children. We confess that some days, parenting is very tough. Many days we can feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. We ask that You would make us more like You, more aware of your constant Presence in our lives. Help us to release our children to You, so that You are free to fully accomplish all that You desire within the hearts of our child(ren). Please fill our day to day life with Your truth, and cover us with Your favour in all things.

Amen.
