A Prayer of Thanks

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine I wish You all a wonderful and happy Sunday. I trust You get the result You want at the Grand Prix, at Wimbledon and – where my eyes shall be turned – at Lord’s.

Today I’d like to address those who hate God. I understand why they do. I have met couples who have lost children, families who have lost mothers or fathers, and I’ve seen people so disabled and in such pain knowing that their life will be cut short by sickness at any time. What about those people who struggle through life under the cloud of debt, where every joy is seen through glasses of depression? What about the mentally ill who hear voices urging them to evil? What about society’s outliers who look in the mirror each morning and think they are worthless so hate themselves and target their hate on others who seem to have all the privilege? There are many on this earth who would not agree with the statement that Life is unfair, but God is good.

I do not have an answer.

After so many years studying the Bible and seeing some beautiful and some horrific things I cannot answer those who hate God. I cannot explain why 7/7 happened to some innocents and not to others. I cannot judge them when they are the ones on the end of agonies I cannot imagine. Yes God hates idolatry, sexual immorality, injustice, hypocrisy, deceit, pride, and evil thoughts. God shows hatred for the wicked. How are innocents wicked?

The reality for Christians is that we will all face judgement and we will all approach that judgement with a long record of wicked thoughts and wicked deeds. Yet some will be welcomed by God into his everlasting kingdom. This will not be on the basis of any righteousness we have earned, but only on the basis of the righteousness of Jesus Christ. There is hope for wicked people if only they will turn to Christ in repentance and faith.

All I can say is that hate is a pointless emotion.  It does not change anything in a situation, or life in general. All it does is cause misery and destruction. If God merits such hate what good does it do to You to hate an entity that is so all-powerful? Try not to hate. Try to love instead. So let us give thanks.

I wish You all well. Gob Bless You all and Your families. Come on England!

Heavenly Father, Creator of heaven and earth. Hallowed be thy name. I come before you today with a thankful heart. For too long, all I have done is ask, demand and complain to you without appreciating you for the things you have done for me. Father, I give thanks for my life, my family, my friends. Lord, I’m grateful for your blessings of health, food, water, clothing. You have always been my rock and strength. I thank you for all my worries and problems, for you have said it in your word that in every situation we should give you thanks. Thank you for the times I fell, and you helped me up. So many times I have doubted you, but you never let go of me. You have forgiven me of all my sins. I thank you for the strength you give me to resist temptations. I adore you Jesus for you have never let me down. I can’t thank you enough for you love is simply unending. Thank You Lord.
