A Prayer for Harmony

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust that You and Your loved ones are well and healthy. I hope that You have plans to enjoy the sunshine this Sunday and are now venturing out a bit more now that lockdown has been relaxed.

Now that we are no longer cooped up like prisoners hopefully there will be less opportunists trying to hog the limelight and sow division. I am saddened by those who claim that all are guilty of some social form of sin, whether racism, sexism or something else, when they have done nothing wrong and are none of the above. They should feel no guilt and switch the television off or change the web page that accuses them. Humans are sinners but pinning sins on them which they have not committed helps nobody and merely causes disharmony.

This week I’d like You to pray for harmony. We should try and remember the ideal as written in 1 Corinthians 1:10 –

I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgement.

I trust that You have a peaceful Sunday and a wonderful week to come. Remember that generalisations are often the enemy. Life is far more nuanced than the black and white some commentators claim that it is. The Good Samaritan is always there to surprise bigots and extremists. There are so many times We will be surprised in this life having previously written someone off.

Be well and God Bless You All.

Lord Jesus,
Please open our hearts and minds
to the guidance of your Spirit.
Help us to discern the Father’s will
for your Church today.
Do not let our weaknesses or prejudices hinder your work,
and teach us to do all we can
to make the kingdom of the Father come on earth.
Bring us to the harmony and unity given by your Spirit,
and make us one in praising God with you. Hear us, Lord,
for we are your beloved people.
