A Prayer for Serenity

Listen to this article

VICAR

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust that You are well this Sunday. As the World Cup opens in Qatar and the Christmas tunes play on the radio, You may be forgiven for being confused as to the time of year, this mild November.

So this week I’d like You to relax and try, amidst the confusion, to apply some serenity to your lives.

Let us start with the prayer:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. Amen

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

The Bible is clear on the path to serenity – be guided by God. Psalm 1 lights the path:

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

God Bless You All. Enjoy the football.
