Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust that this message and prayer find You well on this last, the fourth Sunday of Advent 2023.
Today we light the final purple candle to mark the final week of prayer and penance as we wait for the birth of our Saviour.
In the fourth week of Advent, we relight the three candles of HOPE, PEACE, and JOY, and we now also light the final candle, symbolising LOVE. Advent is a time to love as God loved us by giving us His most precious gift. Let us reflect on the Gospel of John:
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:34-35
A nightly prayer for families in the fourth week of Advent:
Teach us to love, O Lord. May we know your love and show it in our lives. As we prepare for our celebration of Jesus’s birth, also fill our hearts with love for the world, that all may know your love and our Saviour. Amen.
