This week I’d like to focus on Sunday.
Sunday holds significant importance for Christians for several reasons:
- Resurrection of Jesus: Christians believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday, which is celebrated as Easter. This event is central to Christian faith, symbolising victory over sin and death.
- Day of Worship: Sunday is traditionally observed as a day of worship and rest. Early Christians chose Sunday, the first day of the week, to commemorate the Resurrection, distinguishing it from the Jewish Sabbath, which is Saturday.
- Community Gathering: Many Christians gather on Sundays for communal worship, including singing, prayer, and the sermon. This time fosters fellowship and strengthens the community of believers.
- Holy Communion: Sunday services often include the observance of the Eucharist or Holy Communion, a sacrament commemorating Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples.
- Spiritual Renewal: Sunday is seen as a day for spiritual renewal and reflection. It offers Christians a chance to disconnect from their daily routines and focus on their faith, seeking guidance and inspiration for the week ahead.
- Biblical Foundation: The practice of gathering on Sundays is rooted in the New Testament, where early Christians are described meeting on the first day of the week to break bread and share teachings (Acts 20:7).

Grant us strength to face the week ahead,
With love and kindness, may our hearts be fed.
Help us share joy, spread hope anew,
In every action, let us reflect You.
As we worship and lift our voice,
In faith and love, let us rejoice.
