A Prayer for Steadfast Hands

Listen to this article

VICAR

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, may this week find you in good heart and good spirits. Let us turn our prayers to those whose labour shapes our land:

Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Everlasting God, our sure foundation and our strength, we lift before You today the hands that work the soil, that mend the broken wall, and that keep the hearth fires burning. For those whose days are measured in tasks completed and duties faithfully performed, we give You thanks, and we bless You for the rhythm of their toil, a sacred echo of Your own creation—for the farmer who reads the sky and trusts the earth, for the shepherd who knows each sheep by name, for the carpenter whose hands find truth in grain and line, for in their labour, we see a reflection of Your providence. Grant them, we pray, a fair return for their endeavour; bless the seed sown and the harvest gathered; prosper the work of their hands and let them see the fruit of their labours. In the weariness of the long day, be their second wind; in the face of setback and storm, be their steadfast hope. Let the elements be kind, and the earth yield its increase; may their rest be deep and sweet, and their homes be filled with the contentment that comes from an honest day’s work, protecting them from harm and their livelihoods from despair. May we never take for granted the bread on our table or the roof over our heads, but remember always the steadfast hands that provided them, instilling in us a spirit of gratitude and a willingness to support their vital work. We ask that You would crown their faithfulness with joy, and let their lives, like well-tended fields, be a testament to Your enduring grace, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God bless You all.

Have a fruitful and blessed week.
