Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust this finds you in good spirits and health. As the seasons turn and the land yields its bounty, let us offer a prayer for those whose hands work the soil.
Proverbs 28:19: “Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.”
O Lord of the rolling hills and the quiet, fertile valleys, the Gardener of all creation, we lift our hearts to You in thanksgiving for the farmers and the stewards of the land. For those whose lives are woven into the very fabric of the earth, who rise with the sun and measure their days by the rhythm of the seasons and the needs of the soil.
We give You thanks for their enduring labour: for the faith required to cast seed upon the ground, for the patience to wait through drought and deluge, and for the strength gathered in the harvest. Bless them, Father, in their vital toil. When the markets roar and the weather is fickle, grant them a steadfast spirit and a portion of that profound peace which passes all understanding.
Ease the weariness in their bones at the end of a long day, and grant them the deep satisfaction that comes from a task honourably done. Brighten their dawns with the chorus of the lark, and their evenings with the quiet majesty of a setting sun over fields they have tended. In times of uncertainty, be their sure foundation; in times of isolation, be their companion; and in times of plenty, be the source of their humble gratitude.
May they see in each furrow a line of hope, and in each new shoot, a testament to Your providence. Let their work be valued, their wisdom heeded, and their way of life be a quiet beacon of integrity and resilience for us all.
We ask that You crown their labours with Your favour. Let their fields be fruitful, their livestock healthy, and their barns be filled. May their lives, like the ancient hedgerows, continue to provide life and boundary, beauty and sustenance for generations to come.
