A Prayer for Addicts

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine I wish You and Your loved ones well.

This week I met an old friend who has smoked since he was 12. He is now 64. He no longer smokes.

I asked my friend how this was possible and he told me that he had spent what he normally spends each month on cigarettes (near to £500) on a hypnotist instead. In the final session with the hypnotist he was told he had a spot on his forehead which, when touched by the hypnotist, would stop his desire to smoke. The hypnotist reached over and firmly poked my friend on the forehead. That was in February – not a cigarette since.

All around us are the addicts. Those addicted to cigarettes, drugs, overeating, porn and other negatives. If we are honest with ourselves we are all addicts.

This week I ask You to all pray for the addicts. Pray for Yourself, if You are one.

God Bless You all and have a wonderful week to come. If You are a Colombian, I wish You too a wonderful week but thank You in advance for having a less wonderful week than the rest of us.

Oh Lord, I come to You to pray for all who are weighed down with some form of addition. Lord, You are the One Who came to set the captives free and to release the sinners from the chains that bind them – so I lift before Your throne of grace all those that have become addicted to drugs or other things.

Lord I know some personally and others that I know nothing about – but You know everyone that is enchained by the curse of addiction. Look with compassion on all that are ensnared by any form of addiction and send help and freedom to all who would accept help. Lord I pray so that they may be released from this imprisonment and returned to a life that has dignity and meaning.

Give wisdom to their family members and those that care for them that they may be given the support and help to put them back on the road to recovery. Endow them with patience, understanding and perseverance, knowing that this can take time to address.

More than anything Lord I pray for their Salvation.
