Britain First or Independent?

Country Squire Magazine has discovered that Britain First members are sending out electoral leaflets for this month’s local elections with candidates describing themselves as “Independent”.

Britain First has unsuccessfully contested elections to the House of Commons, the European Parliament and the mayoralty of London. In 2016 after Jo Cox’s death proscribing Britain First was discussed in the Commons – there is no link between Cox’s death and the group. In November 2017, it was statutorily deregistered as a party by the Electoral Commission.

The Electoral Commission has been informed of these leaflets.

Forget what Britain First is – or stands for – for a minute. The point here is that it is hardly sound for individuals claiming that they are “independent” to be going around saying they are from a particular party, especially when that party has been deregistered. Not only is this confusing for voters, it’s making a mockery – once again – of the Electoral Commission and electoral law.

Let’s see if the Electoral Commission shows some competence in this case. The leaflet back and front can be found below:
