A Prayer for Wisdom

VICAR

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine I hope that You are well and that You are enjoying the May sunshine, responsibly. I also hope that the farmers among you get that rain You have been praying for soon.

This week I would like to focus on the power of the Holy Spirit, who We too often fail to call on for wisdom. Throughout scripture We are reminded of God’s direction over our lives. He is our good Shepherd who leads us and He desires that We follow the path that leads to joy and contentment. When we pray for God’s guidance and for discernment through the Holy Spirit, We can rest assured that God will provide wisdom. We do not have to worry about our next step or about tomorrow because We know who guides our way. Do not rush Your day without going before God to seek guidance.

Wisdom is the ability to discern what’s right from what’s wrong. It is a gift which gives us the capability to make the right choice or decision. If knowledge is power, then wisdom is using that power the right way. We can be educated or intelligent, but without wisdom our education or intelligence may only be in vain. An intelligent person could earn more fame, money, and fortune, but a wise one could earn more friends, honour and God’s favour. There is wisdom from people and there is also wisdom from God. The first may be packed with eloquence but less in substance, while the latter may not sound beautiful but be full of power.

The first thing you can do to gain wisdom from God is to ask it from Him. Admit that you lack wisdom. Be humble. Overcome Your arrogance. Be faithful when asking and praying for wisdom from God. Cast all Your doubts away and believe in Him. In other words, don’t ask wisdom while You disobey His commands – that is an act of hypocrisy and unfaithfulness. Believing in God and being faithful to Him means You also keep and obey His commandments. Finally, do Your very best to get wisdom. Free Yourself from foolishness, arrogance, pride, envy, hatred, selfishness, and all the things that hinder wisdom from entering Your body, mind, heart, and soul. Let the pure wisdom of God dwell in You.

I wish You all a happy week ahead and a peaceful Sunday this day. Be well. Be thoughtful. Be wise. Have empathy for Your fellow human beings, especially those who are ill and those who lack Your courage and faith. God Bless You all.

Dear Lord, Please purify my heart. Grant me Your divine wisdom, as I make You the centre of my life, Lord Jesus. Guide me in all that I do. Save me from pride, arrogance, doubt, and fear. Lead me to victory, where the waters are calm, the earth is still, and where I overlook the trials from the mountaintop, with peace in my heart, knowing I have survived the storm. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
