Labour Sleaze and Why it Matters

Recently, we’ve watched Labour MPs and supporters desperately try to downplay the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer’s donations from Lord Alli. They’ve attempted to claim it’s no big deal, that it’s not a large amount in the grand scheme of things, and that Sir Keir is above reproach and it’s all innocent. Ignoring the fact that someone representing a working-class party, who earns a six-figure salary and more, needs someone else to buy clothes for his wife, nobody can answer one simple question: what does Lord Alli want in return?

Nobody donates anything without expecting something in return. No one.

If you donate food to a food bank, you expect that food to be distributed to those in society who are struggling. If you donate blood to a blood bank, you do so in the hopes that it saves a life, the same as with organ donation. If you give money to a charity, you hope your contribution helps build a well in Africa, aids children in foreign countries in receiving an education, or even that the local animal shelter offers a better quality of life to Barney, Fluffy, and their friends.

Going even further out of the box, if you donate sperm, you expect to give someone a family they so desperately want. But the expectation is there, regardless of the reason, even if that reason is to alleviate our own guilt for having more in life than those we are helping. Yet, there is always an expectation of what will be done with that money.

The Left would have us believe that Lord Alli donated thousands upon thousands to the then-leader of the Opposition’s wife for clothes so she could look nice at official functions. It transpires that this one donor has contributed over £300,000 to Starmer, Angela Rayner, and Rachel Reeves over a decade. This is just one individual donating to three people, that we know of. But he’s done it out of the goodness of his own heart, contrary to eons of arguing from the Left that rich people only use their money for selfish purposes.

There can only be three reasons for donating:

  1. That Lord Alli wants access to power.
  2. That he wants access to Mrs. Starmer.
  3. Both of the above.

Ignoring Labour’s hypocrisy over this and Starmer’s failure to register these donations in the appropriate amount of time—something he attacked Boris Johnson for—Labour needs to tell us what he expected in return for these generous donations, in detail. There are reports that he had access to Number Ten after the election, but I think we deserve a full and detailed account of exactly what was expected.

Simply trying to brush it off will not work now; Labour has ensured that social media is geared up to apply 24/7 pressure on any government—they just didn’t think it would turn on them.

Right now, our Prime Minister looks easily bought—an image he will not shake off. The damage is done, and his reputation is forever tarnished because of how quickly he fell into the trappings of power whilst lecturing others. Whoever takes over from him will be just as bad, if not worse. But one thing we can take comfort in is that Labour can no longer control the beast they created, and every little thing they do is under the microscope and watched by the entire world.
