A Prayer for Our Elders

VICAR

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust that You are well and healthy. This week let us pray for our elderly:

1 Timothy 5:1-2: “Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.”

Heavenly Father, from whom all wisdom and grace doth flow, we gather our hearts in gratitude for the elders among us. For those who have long walked the fields of this life, whose hands are mapped with the stories of labour and love, and whose quiet presence is a testament to a faith that has been tried and proven true.
We give You thanks for the harvest of their years: for the wisdom sown in hardship and reaped in patience, for the legacy of love carefully tended and passed down like a cherished heirloom. Bless them, O Lord, in this autumn of their lives. When the pace slows and the world grows loud, grant them the profound peace that comes from knowing You. Wrap them in a cloak of sweet memories and the sure knowledge of a life well-lived.
Ease the aches that come with the cooling years, and brighten their days with the simple joys of a sunlit porch, the song of a thrush, the laughter of a child, and the comfort of a well-worn chair. In moments of loneliness, send them faithful companions; in moments of weariness, be their strength; and in moments of reflection, assure them of their enduring worth.
May they feel not a setting aside, but a gentle turning to a new and honoured watch. Let their counsel, born of experience, be heeded, their stories be treasured, and their prayers for our generation be a mighty fortress for our souls.
We ask that You crown their years with Your goodness, and let their lives, like ancient, sturdy oaks, continue to offer shade and shelter to all who dwell beneath their boughs.
In the name of Him who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Amen.

God bless You all.

Have a lovely and peaceful week.

See if there are any lonely elderly people who live near you. Please seek them out and offer them help.
