A Prayer for the Poor

Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust that You are well and healthy. As I write, I see snowdrops emerging from our lawn area. I am so looking forward to the Spring!

This week I would like to focus on those in our society who have little or no wealth. There are always some who find it hard to afford to heat their homes or fill their cars and this week let us pray for them, that they may be successful in overcoming these daily struggles. God loves the poor and wants His people to demonstrate a compassionate and sympathetic heart toward them.

Isaiah 61:1
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

Jesus would eventually kick off His ministry by standing up in the synagogue and claiming these words as a prophecy about His ministry. God’s love is demonstrated in His tender care toward those who are broken, struggling, and hurting.

Can You help those in poverty? How should you best assist them? These are issues I would like You to consider this week, as a Christian.

God Bless You all. Have a peaceful Sunday and a great week ahead.

Lord God,

You came to give honour to the least, those forgotten, overlooked and misjudged. You came to give first place to the last, those left behind, misunderstood and undervalued. You came to give a warm welcome to the lost, those who are orphaned, abandoned and destitute. Help us to be your ears to listen to their cries. Help us to be your voice speaking out love and acceptance. Help us to be your feet walking beside those in need. Help us to be your hands to clothe, feed and shelter them. You came for the least, the lost and last of this world. Lord, hear our prayer.
