A Prayer for New Life

VICAR

As this year’s round of lambs stumble into the spring air, wobbling on new legs, we are reminded of the fragile miracle of life—and the steadfast care that nurtures it. This season of birth and renewal speaks to us of God’s providence: the tender strength of the ewe, the vigilance of the shepherd, and the promise that life, though vulnerable, will always find a way.

Let us pause, Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, and give thanks for the rhythms of the land, for the hands that tend it, and for the Creator who sustains all things.

“He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart.”
Isaiah 40:11

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of lambing season—for the crisp mornings etched with breath like prayer, for the straw-strewn barns humming with life, and for the quiet marvel of a ewe nuzzling her newborn. Bless the farmers and shepherds who rise before dawn, whose patience and skill mirror Your own watchful love. Grant them steady hands, keen eyes, and hearts attuned to the needs of their flocks. In moments of exhaustion, remind them that their labour is sacred. Protect the vulnerable: the lambs born frail, the mothers weary from labour, the creatures exposed to winter’s lingering grasp. Teach us, too, to be gentle stewards—to recognise the sacredness in all You entrust to our care. As we witness this cycle of life, may it stir in us a deeper faith: that You, our Good Shepherd, guide us through every season, bearing our burdens and rejoicing when we rise. We ask this in the name of Christ, the Lamb of God. Amen.

God bless You all.
