VICAR
Dear Readers of Country Squire Magazine, I trust this Sunday finds you well, perhaps with a fresh pot of tea at your elbow and the week’s newsprint scattered about you. As I look out from my window, the countryside is putting on its finest show. There is a particular quality to the light on a Sunday morning, isn’t there? It’s a light that seems to slow things down, to invite us to pause and simply breathe before the new week begins.
We live in busy times. Our minds are often cluttered with the week’s demands before they have even arrived. We worry about work, about family, about the state of the world. But Sunday offers us a gentle reset. It is a day to set aside the clamour and to remember the simple gifts that surround us: the warmth of our homes, the company of loved ones, and the quiet beauty of the natural world.
This week, I invite you to join me in a prayer for the days ahead. Let us pray not just for grand gestures, but for the small graces that guide our steps and bring peace to our hearts.
Dear Lord, As we rest on this Sunday, we give thanks for the week that has passed. For its joys and its challenges, for the moments of laughter and the moments of learning. We are grateful for Your constant presence, even when we were too busy to notice. As we look to the week ahead, we ask for Your calming peace to settle upon us. In a world that often rushes, grant us the wisdom to be still. In a world that often shouts, grant us the grace to listen—for Your still, small voice, and for the needs of those around us. We pray for the strength to face any challenges with courage and for the humility to ask for help when we are weary. We pray for patience in our dealings with others, and for kindness to be the hallmark of our words and actions. Bless the work of our hands, whether in the office, the field, or the home. May we find purpose in our labour and take satisfaction in a job done with integrity. Guide our farmers as they tend the land, our teachers as they shape young minds, and all those who care for the sick and the elderly. We pray for our families and our neighbours. Help us to be a source of comfort and support, to mend quarrels before they fester, and to always express our love before it is too late. And finally, Lord, we thank You for this day of rest. For the beauty of the countryside that reminds us of Your creativity, and for the quiet moments that restore our souls. We commit this new week into Your hands. Amen.
God Bless You All.
May you have a peaceful Sunday and a week filled with purpose. Why not take a moment today to call someone you love, or simply take a stroll and appreciate the world around you? It is in these small moments that we often find the greatest blessings.
