A Prayer for Enlightenment

VICAR

Dear Reader of Country Squire Magazine, a happy and blessed Sunday to You.

This time of year the teenagers are busy stressing themselves about upcoming exams. To them they are the be all and end all of things. Of course, they seem that way at the time.

We also have an important General Election coming up. There are Brexit negotiations around the corner. We all face big decisions in our lives from time to time and we need enlightenment.

Here is a prayer for enlightenment. You may need it some day. It is taken from a Catholic prayer book dating back to 1916 – a dark time when we certainly needed enlightenment.

I wish You a peaceful and happy Sunday and a wonderful week to come. God bless.

Incomprehensible Creator, the true Fountain of light and only Author of all knowledge: vouchsafe, we beseech Thee, to enlighten our understandings, and to remove from us all darkness of sin and ignorance. Thou, who makest eloquent the tongues of those that want utterance, direct our tongues, and pour on our lips the grace of Thy blessing. Give us a diligent and obedient spirit, quickness of apprehension, capacity of retaining, and the powerful assistance of Thy holy grace; that what we hear or learn we may apply to Thy honour and the eternal salvation of our own souls.
