Not In My Name

BY MAHIMA SHARMA

Why in my name?

No, not in my name.

You do the killings,

The blood is in your name.

But the stain…the red stain is there on all of us,

And the stain is getting deeper on you & I.

May be you are one of those who walk away when people get lynched,

May be you were blind to see them die helpless,

May be you don’t Care,

May be you don’t Dare,

But my friend, the stain of their blood is on all of us,

And the stain is getting deeper on you & I.

Even if your society isn’t part of this bloodbath,

Even if you watched it on media away from the real wrath,

Even if you didn’t fight for your right with violence & might,

Even if you didn’t raise your hand… though the fists were tight,

But World os Ram, Rahim, Buddha and Christ stands shamed,

And this shame is getting deeper on you & I.

May be you love peace,

May be you shun hate-speech,

Even of you honour the opposite’s identity,

Even if you don’t belong to a maybe cruel city,

But my friend…our hands are red with blood of the dead,

And the stain is getting deeper on you & I.

Whether you wear green, white or saffron,

Whether you pray with open palms or cross your heart,

Why doesn’t you heart bleed at the plight of ‘the other?’

Remember the blood stain getting deeper on you & I.

May be you feel ‘the other’ deserves to be in another land,

May be you believe ‘the other’ is no longer a friend,

Even if on politicians you throw the blame,

Even if you feel like a pawn in this brutal game,

But my friend with our weak heart, blind eyes & self-muted speech…

The blood stain is getting deeper on you & I.

Because innocents are getting killed each day in our name,

So why should we take the blame?

Awake, arise and stand up for justice,

Since the blood stain is getting deeper on you & I.

They blast women-children off in our name,

They riddle bullets into innocents in our name,

And we do nothing but watch…sitting, taking the blame?

Why in my name?

No, not in my name.

You do the killings,

The blood is in your name.

So…Let’s speak up, protest, unite against terrorism,

Because…till then, the blood stain gets deeper on you & I.
