No Dogs on the Bed

BY ISABELLA WIGHTMAN

No Dogs on the Bed is an amusing book replete with funny pictures of dogs misbehaving. The illustrations are by the Sunday Times and Country Life illustrator John Holder.

My favourite picture in the book was of the black dog with a fishbowl on his head eating a fish because the dog looks a lot like Angus, our family terrier. The one with a soldier covered in leaves getting peed on by a dog also made me laugh out loud.

This delightful book is comprised of a series of images and famous quotes about dogs. Published by Quiller, it makes for a good read in the loo, or it can be used as a stocking filler or gift. Something one can send to a godchild.

My favourite quote from the book was “what counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog” by Dwight D. Eisenhower. I think the one “If aliens saw us walking our dogs and picking up their poop, who would they think is in charge?” is also one of the most memorable quotes in the book.

In a lot of the pictures the dogs are doing things my dogs have done and that makes this book even more fun and attractive. The pictures are all colourful and some are hilarious. This book is relatable for all dog owners. I recommend this book to all readers, children and adults alike. Seeing where famous dog quotes come from is a useful history lesson and this book features interesting factoids which the images assist in remembering. Did you know Sir Isaac Newton invented the cat flap? Read John Holder’s book and you will learn such factoids too.
