The Squires have long been fans of Robert Jenrick. We had hoped he would become leader of the Conservative Party and take the fight to this dreadful Labour government, hitting them hard where it hurts (though, to be fair, they seem to be quite capable of doing that to themselves without any help).
Kemi Badenoch won the leadership contest fair and square, and we extend our congratulations and the very best of British luck to her. All Conservatives should now unite behind her. Her performance on Laura Kuenssberg last Sunday was promising. Her comment on that programme regarding skin colour is worth repeating here and should be eternalised:
“I think the best thing will be when we get to a point where the colour of your skin is no more remarkable than the colour of your eyes, or the colour of your hair.”
Badenoch strikes us as the kind of conservative we can get behind. There’s a great deal of Margaret Thatcher about her. Her understanding of the need for small government, harnessing the potential of AI, and attracting foreign investment through a low-tax Brexit Britain is encouraging. The world needs Brexit Britain as a safe harbour for capital, not another big-state France.
On the countryside, Starmer’s sixth-form rabble have handed her a golden opportunity. Reversing the punitive inheritance tax changes would be a good start, along with challenging the extremist green lobby. The billions wasted on green initiatives in our small island, to the detriment of our farmers and food security, could be far better spent on planting trees in the Amazon or encouraging our Chinese and Indian friends to continue growing, but in a more intelligent and sustainable way.
Reform is nothing without Nigel Farage.
The SNP are nothing without Sturgeon. Scotland needs a rebirth for the party, as if that was not crystal clear and obvious.
As for the Liberal Democrats — what do they actually stand for? They have become little more than the default protest vote for those who’ve grown disillusioned with the Tories. It’s time to implement discipline within the party, tidy up CCHQ, and tell the moral relativists to shape up or ship out. Those who voted Lib Dem will soon be back after a spring clean. The Conservatives need a fresh wave of centre-right candidates. Lord Dominic Johnson is a strong appointment and is well-placed to fix the party machine, making CCHQ fit for purpose for generations to come.
And as for the current government? If they don’t implode of their own accord, they should be exposed in the same way Corbyn was — with the light of truth shining on their every misstep and Britain-hating connection.
Warm regards and good luck, Mrs Badenoch.
