With Each Decree the Spirit of the Nation Dimmed Further

The Marxists only took over last summer.

They concealed a monster from the people, a terrorist whose hands were stained with the blood of children. The streets erupted in fury; voices raised against their tyranny. They dared call the rioters far-right thugs. One woman was jailed for raising her voice to a police dog. With each command, the light of the nation flickered, dimmed by the weight of their decrees.

They scrapped winter fuel payments for millions of vulnerable pensioners knowing full well that some would meet the frost with a final shiver. They funded inflation-busting pay rises for train drivers and other unionised workforces to placate their bloodsucking union comrades. With each decree, the spirit of the nation dimmed further.

Breaking manifesto commitments, they left businesses paralysed by a £25 billion raid on employer national insurance. This action caused businesses to stall their hiring plans, draining hope and confidence from the economy. High-spending non-doms sent their wealth to warmer, more welcoming locales, while international investors also sought alternative destinations. Homeowners grappled with higher mortgage rates following the fallout from their budget. With each decree, the spirit of the nation dimmed further.

Driven by their bitter ideology, they imposed a cruel tax that would yield little revenue yet burdened family farms that could ill afford it. Farming families, the backbone of the nation, seethed with anger. Deep sorrow and despair echoed in their hearts as they rose in protest. The Marxists deemed family farms surplus to needs. One adviser boldly stated he was “personally in favour” of doing to farmers “what Margaret Thatcher did to the miners” and “closing down an industry.” With each decree, the spirit of the nation dimmed further.

As they set about their economy-breaking plans for net zero, they declared those in the countryside ‘nimbies’ —a stinging term for those whose only crime is to cherish their land. They vowed the carpeting of fields with solar panels, the wrecking of rural areas with unsightly windmills and pylons, all the time making their weird donors and other cronies richer. They announced that wildlife should not be protected at the expense of building homes and that they would build on the green belt. With each decree, the spirit of the nation dimmed further.

They boasted of clean governance, a shining example unlike their predecessors, vowing to shield their administration from any hint of scandal. Yet, their words were smoke. They cleared the route to a Taylor Swift concert at Wembley they said they were not attending but attended all the same. Just months in, their own fell from grace—a felon in their midst, the rot festering deep as their Minister for Transport resigned for being a convicted fraudster. One of their biggest donors, given a Downing Street pass, found himself at the centre of a political row over the acceptance of gifts and hospitality by senior MPs in their party, including the Prime Minister himself. They declared that there was nothing to see here. Wealth continues to flow from the shadows, and still they claim ignorance or smears. With each decree, the spirit of the nation dimmed further, sinking slowly, inexorably into a dark abyss.

Four more years…

Will the last person to leave Britain please turn out the lights? (Presuming they do not depart on a still day).
