On this blessed Gaudete Sunday, we pause to rejoice as we draw nearer to the celebration of the birth of our Lord. The third candle is lit today, symbolising joy and hope, reminding us that just as the angels brought good tidings to the shepherds, we too are called to bear witness to Christ’s love amidst our everyday lives.

As we journey through Advent, we embrace the call to prepare our hearts for both the commemoration of Christ’s First Coming and the anticipation of His Second Coming. Each week invites reflection and renewal, urging us to align our spirits with the profound promise of salvation and the joy of His presence.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, on this Gaudete Sunday, we gather with joyful hearts, reflecting on the light of Christ that shines in our lives. As we light this third candle, we celebrate the assurance of Your presence among us, reminding us to rejoice always in Your goodness and grace.

As we anticipate the coming of our Saviour, help us to prepare our hearts with the hope and joy that this season brings. May we be inspired by the shepherds, who, upon hearing the angels’ proclamation, hastened to witness the miracle of Your birth. Let their faith encourage us to share in the good news and to be instruments of Your love in the world.

Lord, as we navigate the days of Advent, guide us in our journey of reflection and growth. May we seek the wisdom of the just, turning away from disobedience and embracing the path of righteousness. Fill us with peace, joy, and readiness as we await Your glorious return.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Light and Redeemer. Amen.
